Do you know where your puppies are?
name withheld by request

I thought we could all use a little "reminder," so...

Recently, I took a trip to the United States to look at a dog. I was sitting in my hotel room one night reading the local paper, when I came across an ad:

PUPS - AKC REG., 4 MALES, 3 FEMALES $275 PHONE NUMBER

I couldn't resist, I had to call the number, and here is the conversation that followed:

Me: Do the pups come with papers?

Him: Yes.

Me: What is your kennel name?

Him: AKC.

Me: No, I mean YOUR kennel name?

Him: Oh, well, we don't have a kennel, these are just our pets - this is only her second litter so far.

Me: What are the parent's registered names?

Him: I don't remember.

Me: Do you check for problems with eyes & hips?

Him: The pups?

Me: No, the parents!

Him: There isn't anything wrong with them.

Me: No, I mean did you x-ray the parent's hips for dysplasia and take them to an eye clinic to have their eyes checked?

Him: No, hip dysplasia is a problem in large breed dogs, not Bichon Frises.

Me: That's not true, I read in a book that dysplasia and eye problems can be a problem in Bichons!

Him: Well, not with ours!

Me: Do you have any adults available that I could buy so I can breed a litter of my own?

Him: No, we only have our pets, one male and one female.

Me: Can I have one of the female pups to breed?

Him: Sure!

Me: Do you know where I can find a male to breed her to on her first season?

Him: You can have a female, and I think the guy down the road has a male you could use.

Me: I started to explain about breeding too soon, hereditary problems, etc, and . . .

Him: Who the #%*& is this?! HANG UP!

Do you think that since you sell your puppies to seemingly nice and intelligent people that they are all safe and spayed? THINK AGAIN AND CHECK UP ON THEM!!!
